Frances Zorn

October 15, 1936 ~ July 15, 2017 (age 80)

Sarah Frances Johnson Zorn

Sarah Frances Johnson Zorn passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017 at her home in Sylacauga, Alabama. She was 80 years old.

Frances was born on October 15, 1936 in Hollins, Alabama and was the daughter of the late Arvie Howard Johnson and Sarah Cemyra House Johnson. She met the love of her life, Jack Zorn, at Montgomery Bible College (now Faulkner University).  They built a life together and in 1968 founded a youth program called Lads to Leaders to train young leaders in the Churches of Christ, now the largest leadership training program among Churches of Christ worldwide. At times Frances worked three jobs to support the family while her husband (Now Dr. Jack Zorn) introduced Lads to Leaders across the country and overseas. She retired from South Central Bell after winning many awards as a top service representative.

Prior to moving to Sylacauga, Frances and Jack lived in Montgomery in Old Cloverdale on Felder Avenue for many years. While active in a variety of civic organizations, the Zorns always had one mission in life - mentoring, training and investing in as many young people as possible to be Christ-like servants.

Frances is survived by Jack, her husband of 61 years, their three daughters, Resa Zorn Byrd (Herb), Rhonda Zorn Fernandez (Halo), and Sonya Zorn King (Johnny); five granddaughters, Heather Reeves (Jimmy), Kristin Cole (Zac), Resa Marie Byrd, Isabella Rowan (Randall); Annabelle Cruz (Hector); nine great grandchildren; two brothers, Thomas Johnson (Shirley); Roy Johnson, now the CEO of Lads to Leaders (Brenda) and many nieces and nephews.

The Zorn family would especially like to thank the various Hospice doctors, nurses, chaplains, and social workers who’ve given exquisite care to the Zorns over an extended period of time. Additionally, the Zorns appreciate the dedication, dependability, and thoughtfulness of the following at-home caregivers: Jalane Cook, Pamela Pope, Amy Rowan, Trish Hagan, Christy Krysiewski, Della Bolan, David Rozelle. Helen Mulaparthi, and Olivia Harrell as well as the neighbors and family members who’ve visited/assisted the Zorns during the past several years.

The memorial service and receiving of friends is Saturday, July 22 at University Church of Christ, 5315 Atlanta Hwy. Montgomery, AL 36109. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 and the memorial service is at 3:00. No graveside service will be held.
