Sylacauga, AL - Visitation for A. Douglas Dickey, 83, will be Saturday, May 13, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home.
Mr. Dickey passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Coosa Valley Nursing Home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Huey and Clara Dickey; sister, Martha L. Dickey; sister, Mildred Callahan; brother, Huey A. Dickey, Jr.; and brother, Samuel "Buddy" Ray Dickey. He was born in Pell City, Alabama and was a graduate of Pell City High School. Mr. Dickey was also a 1955 graduate of Auburn University. While in college he was a two-time All-SEC selection in baseball and was also selected as a team captain. After college he played two years of Minor League baseball in the Cleveland Indians chain. He also was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served as a commissioned officer. Mr. Dickey spent more than 40 years as an employee of Avondale Mills. At the time of his retirement, he held the position of Vice President of Manufacturing of Avondale Fabrics. Mr. Dickey was a loving husband, father, friend, and will be truly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Donna L. Dickey; daughter, Brenda Dickey; daughter, Cindy (David) Enfinger; son, Michael Dickey; son, David (Stephanie) Dickey; two grandsons, Jason Enfinger and Travis Enfinger; and sister, Mattie Lee (Herman) Golden.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Boys Club of Sylacauga or the B.B. Comer Memorial Library.
