Mr. Maxwell was born August 30, 1930 in Grasmere, Alabama to the late Calvin Lee Maxwell and Olive Jewel Payne and a life-long resident of Talladega County. He graduated from Childersburg High School in 1948 and joined the United States Air Force in 1950 during the Korean War. His time in the USAF was one of the highlights of his life where he served as a flight line crew chief.  His Air Force stories entertained his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren for many hours. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church, where he served on many committees, a retired employee of Kimberly Clark, a Mason at Coosa Valley Masonic Lodge #929 for over fifty years, and a friend to the neighbors in Pinecrest. His greatest loves were his wife, and family. As the patriarch Papa, he enjoyed rocking all the new babies who came into the family and playing with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren during family gatherings.  Papa was well known for his stories, making noises to mimic any and everything, and his love of airplanes and tractors.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Adam Maxwell, Nathan Maxwell, Trey Weed, Jon Stephens and Joseph Stephens, and great-grandson, Bryce Weed.  Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Coosa Valley Masonic Lodge #929.
