Margaret Y. Gallops

Sylacauga, AL - Margaret Gallops, age 70, passed away at home on November 12, 2019. She was born on August 28th, 1949 as the oldest of seven children to Joseph and Edna Atkisson. She married her teenage sweetheart, James Gallops Sr. on January 15th, 1966. She was a long term resident of Hollins, Alabama.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Edna Atkisson and 2 brothers,Tommy and Leroy Atkisson.

She is survived by her loving and faithful husband - James Gallops Sr., 2 sons -James (Tammie) and Billy Gallops, 1 daughter - Brandie (Jonathan) Owings, 8 grandkids - Chris, Billy Jr., Spencer, Taylor (Jacklyn), Brady, Alexis, TJ, and Andrew, 2 great grandkids - Jayden & Jep, 3 sisters, 1 brother, and countless other family and friends.

Margaret was a member of Hollins Baptist Church, where she enjoyed picking on her Pastor and good friend, Rev. Jason Gravette. She enjoyed bargaining with multiple local store managers to see just how good of a deal she could get on items for the shoeboxes that she enjoyed packing for Operation Christmas Child. It brought her joy to give items to her church as well as her son and daughter’s churches for the boxes. She also enjoyed sewing pillowcase dresses to donate to the shoebox collection. She was a very talented seamstress, hand stitching many quilts and other projects over the years.

Most of all she enjoyed traveling with her husband. Together they traveled most of the United States, explored parts of Europe, and sailed 27 cruises, seeing destinations such as the Caribbean Islands, the Bahamas, the Panama Canal, Alaska, and Hawaii. 

Funeral service for Margaret Y. Gallops will be Friday, November 15, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Hollins Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Gravette and Bro. James Gallops Jr. officiating.  Burial will be in Hollins Cemetery in Hollins, AL.  Visitation will be Friday, November 15, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Hollins Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
