Michael E. Box
Sylacauga, AL - A Celebration of life service for Michael E. Box, 74, will be Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church, Childersburg, AL with Bro. Frank Thompson officiating. Mr. Box passed away 2/12/2018, from a lengthy illness with Parkinson's and Lewy Body Dementia.
Mike had many titles; Husband, Father, Pa Pa, Teacher, Coach, Principal, Manager and his favorite was Evangelist. When the Lord saved Mike Box, he became an avid student of God's word and within a year he was teaching Youth at church and winning souls to Christ. Later he began teaching on Wednesday evenings at Grace. It was his passion. Mike graduated from The University of Alabama where he played baseball under Hall of Famer, Joe Sewell. After a knee injury he had to give up his dream of playing professional baseball. Instead he pursued a profession of teaching Industrial Arts and coaching baseball at Childersburg High School. He led the Childersburg Tigers to 2 State Championships and one undefeated season during his 17 yrs. as Coach. He then started a umpire association where he umpired baseball for a number of years. His last 3 years prior to retirement he was the Principle of the Genesis Alternative School, which he named. Mike wore many hats in his 34 yr. tenure with the Talladega County Board of Education. He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. He started and organized 'The Last Chance Hunting Club' in Caladonia Alabama. Mike was a member of Grace Baptist Church where he served the Lord with all his heart. He then became a Golf Course Manager of Magnolia Meadows in Columbiana.
Mike is survived by his wife of 36 years, Deborah Hammond Box, sons, Michael Wesley Box (Sheri Box), Jason Hagan (Connie Atchley Hagan); daughter, Jenny H. Hall; sister, JoAnne Touchstone (Larry Touchstone) of Pensacola Florida; grandchildren, Allen Wesley Box, Chelsea Hagan, Payton Haisten and Landon Haisten.
